Description

Gigante Dorato is a golden-stemmed heritage celery from the Alps. The golden colour, crisp texture and aromatic flavour set it apart from the watery supermarket celery you are used to. This is what celery is supposed to taste like.

Sow on the surface of compost without covering, as celery needs light to germinate. Slow to start but worth the patience. Use raw in salads, braised as a side dish, or chopped into a soffritto as the base for Italian sauces and soups.

Celery ‘Gigante Dorato’ (Apium graveolens L.) is a unique golden-stemmed heritage variety from the Alps, prized for its superb flavour. Unlike self-blanching types, its golden ‘legs’ are achieved by traditional blanching (wrapping stems), resulting in tender, sweet, and less fibrous stalks. Perfect raw with dips like ‘Bagna Cauda’, as a base for sauces, or cooked. This packet contains approximately 5000 seeds.

๐ŸŒฑ Sow Feb-end Jun indoors or under cover. Needs a long season.
โ˜€๏ธ Prefers full sun to light shade. Rich, moist soil is essential.
๐Ÿ’ง Water generously and consistently. Celery is a thirsty crop.
๐Ÿ“ Tall, sturdy plant. Requires earthing up or wrapping for blanching.
